Ingredients
    🥩 For the Steak Marinade:
  • 450 g beef sirloin (sliced into thin strips against the grain)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (low sodium)
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 0 tsp 0.5 baking soda (optional – helps tenderize the meat)
  • 🌶️ For the Stir-Fry Sauce:
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce (for color)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 0 tsp 0.5 sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Pinch of ground black pepper
  • 🧅 For the Stir-Fry:
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (vegetable or canola oil)
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced into strips)
  • 1 green bell pepper (sliced into strips)
  • 1 medium onion (halved and sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger (minced)
  • 1 green onion (sliced thin, for garnish – optional)
  • Cooked white rice (for serving – optional)
Instructions
    Marinate the Beef
  1. 1
In a bowl, combine sliced beef with soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, cornstarch, and baking soda. Mix well and let marinate for 15 minutes at room temperature.
  2. Make the Sauce
  3. 2
In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, dark soy sauce, cornstarch, water, sugar, sesame oil, and black pepper. Set aside.
  4. Sear the Beef
  5. 3
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat (around 200°C). Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sear undisturbed for 1 minute, then stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until mostly cooked. Remove and set aside.
  6. Stir-Fry the Vegetables
  7. 4
In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed. Add garlic and ginger, stir for 10 seconds, then toss in the bell peppers and onion. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until slightly softened but still crisp.
  8. Combine and Cook
  9. 5
Return the beef to the pan. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir everything together. Cook for another 2–3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and veggies evenly.
  10. Garnish and Serve
  11. 6
Turn off the heat, sprinkle with sliced green onions (if using), and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
Note
