I’ve been doing this thirty day green smoothie thing.
It’s supposed to be good for you, and maybe help lose a little bit of weight, which I think everybody wants to do at this time of year. Because bathing suits, am I right?
Anyway, the basic premise is that you replace one meal a day with a green smoothie. I’m doing breakfast, because that just seems like the easiest meal to sacrifice. Lunch is for bread (and good things), and dinner is for big meals not smoothie diets. End of story.
I found a basic customizable formula for the smoothies so I can change things up every week and it’s been working out really well. It’s 1 part greens, 1 part liquid, and 2 parts fruit, or other add ins.
I haven’t noticed a huge difference since implementing the green smoothie…but it has too add up sometime, because almond milk + spinach = 42ish calories. And no matter what you add in after they’re good calories! Plus, the smoothies keep you satisfied for a decent amount of time.
My favourite smoothie combo so far has to be spinach, frozen banana, and avocado. The avocado thickens things up, the banana keeps everything cool and just slightly sweet. So. Good. And if I add in a pinch of cinnamon and dash of vanilla to liven things up, who’s judging?
I might even just keep going with this for another month. It’s such an easy way to get a serving of fruit and veggies.
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/4 of a large avacado, or 1/2 of a small one
- Pinch of cinnamon
- Dash of vanilla
- Add spinach and almond milk to a blender, blend until smooth.
- Add in the banana, avocado, cinnamon, and vanilla.
- Serve and enjoy!
